“Be it known that the spiritual world in outward appearance is entirely similar to the natural world.” (Howard Pyle)
On a visit to Jasper National Park in Alberta last year, we had the opportunity to take a boat trip on Maligne Lake. This is one of the only ways that you can experience a delightful, iconic scene that has come to represent the Canadian Rockies. Spirit Island is not really an island but rather a tiny spit of land. For a short period each spring it becomes an island with the elevated water levels from glacial run-off. Surrounded by mountains it has a serene, quiet beauty that is undeniable. With little time to paint, I had to make due with a few quick photos. I have finally attempted to capture it in watercolor. This is that attempt.
