“Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience. (Alfred North Whitehead)
This started as a plein air exercise. There was a plein air paint-in a couple of weeks ago in my home town, Stouffville, Ontario. I decided to use this time to attempt a painting of a local fine dining restaurant called The Cornerhouse On Main. One of the owners had, at one time, asked me to do a painting of their establishment. It has undergone many additions and renos in the interim and was now almost beyond comprehension as subject matter, but... I love a challenge! I decided to take a more illustrative or “graphic” approach, playing up its position on the corner of a main intersection. It was both fun and frustrating. For better or worse, here is the result.
