“Prelude” to a Storm

Yesterday was a wet one to be sure! Through the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), there was about two hours worth of intense downpours greater than had been seen in decades. A month's worth of rain in just a couple of hours! With climate change, this kind of wild weather swings has, unfortunately, become the norm.

The sight of the deep, dark indigo skies reminded me of a plein air painting morning several years ago. A normal weekend morning set up on a rural side road, an hour and a half into a watercolour when the sky started to turn ugly. The winds started blowing from the north west with a fury as we rushed to finish. The result was a painting I called “Prelude”. You can see the sky rolling in and the wind blowing the trees in its path. We were just able to gather our stuff and get to the car as the skies opened. After catching our breath, we slowly made our way home through the storm... yet another great day painting!!!
