An In-built Need for Harmony

“Art condenses the experience we all have as human beings, and, by forming it, makes it significant. We all have an in-built need for harmony and the structures that create harmony. Basically, art is an affirmation of life.” (Trevor Bell)

One of Canada’s little-known natural jewels is Forillon National Park on the Gaspé penninsula in the province of Québec. Several years ago, on one of our plein air painting trips, we discovered this little restored homestead. Located inside the park and a few kilometres from our bed & breakfast accommodations, it drew us back three days straight to explore its many views. While painting from this elevated spot, I was delightfully interrupted by the sound of a humpback whale spouting and stopped long enough to watch it surface several more time before it disappeared around the point. Another memorable day, brush in hand, enjoying the wonderful things this artistic life continues to bring me!
