A True Painting

“A representative painting of a mountain is simply a copy of what is reflected on the eye’s retina. A true painting of a mountain is a more or less imperfect record of what transpires in the soul of the person behind the retina.” (F.B. Hoosier on The Group of Seven)

The majesty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains can only be truly felt in person. This is a plein air watercolour that I completed one gorgeous sunny day at Moraine Lake, near Banff Alberta. To this day, I can still feel the breeze and hear the water when I look at the painting.
