We attended a wonderful concert last night at the Music Hall in Uxbridge. J.P. Cormier appeared in support of ArtsCanCircle, a charitable cause linking creative artists with Indigenous youth at risk. I have followed J.P.'s music for many years. Last night he was at the height of his craft, showing amazing virtuosity with guitar, mandolin, banjo and fiddle. He is a master at any instrument with strings! He shocked us all by announcing that last night was the last concert of his last tour. He has toured up to 300 nights a year for 30 years and will now concentrate on his soon-to-be-up website (jp-cormier.com), his songwriting, production, recording and teaching.
We happened to be on a painting holiday, 6 years ago, in Nova Scotia and Cape Breton when J.P. had an impromptu homecoming concert for friends in a big tent in Cheticamp, his home town. It was a wild, kitchen party type atmosphere and it is an evening I'll always remember. I have attached a couple of plein air watercolours that I did in the next few days buoyed by J.P.'s music!
