Painting and Sketching Holiday

Just returned last week from a painting and sketching holiday in Newfoundland. This is the sixth trip to “the rock” for my wife Margaret Grandison, a fine plein air painter herself, and yours truly. This time out we were accompanied by good friends Colin Whitebread (colinwhitebread.blogspot.ca) and his wife Susan. Susan did her best to keep the three crazy artists on the straight and narrow, supporting us through thick and thin (books that is). Susan is an avid reader and kept herself busy with a sack full of novels.

Margaret and I did a number of watercolur sketches and Colin created a volume of pen and pencil sketches. I worked primarily on an 8" x 8" Arches watercolour block, intrigued as I now am with a square format. We started in Twillingate, took a ferry to a wonderful outpost-era Change Island, on to the historic village of Trinity and finished up in the capital of St. John’s. A wonderful time was had by all! Hopefully the work in the next few posts will convey that joy!
